Assalamu'alaikum there. I'm a native English speaker so yes, English is my mother tongue. But yes, I'm not perfect and still make slight grammatical mistakes.
Well, if you want to improve your English, do not hesitate to ask your lecturers and friends who are apt at that language to help you improve your command of the English language. Whilst some of your friends may call you poyo for speaking in English, please ignore them! They are only ignorant people who are not aware of the importance of English in this era of globalisation.
You must read aloud what you read. And make sure you have your dictionary with you. If you're not sure of a word's pronunciation, do check the dictionary for its phonetic pronunciation. There is no denying that the dictionary is going to be your best friend during these 'difficult' and 'trying' times. Read the newspapers such as The Star and The New Straits Times to improve your vocabulary as well. English newspapers are a rich source for new words.
Or you could try reading English novels as well. Each author (as mentioned by Imakubex) has differing writing styles. From there, you can learn how to write essays more effectively as well as you can analyse the grammar used by different authors. Analyse the past tense, present tense, simple present tense, etc...
Also, do watch the English dramas in the television and listen carefully to how they pronounce and stress certain words. this can help you to speak in a more natural manner.
Don't forget that practice makes perfect.
Work hard, do'a and tawakkal. InsyaAllah, Allah is always with you. =)
