Assalamu'alaikum there. I'm a native English speaker so yes, English is my mother tongue. But yes, I'm not perfect and still make slight grammatical mistakes. Well, if you want to improve your English, do not hesitate to ask your lecturers and friends who are apt at that language to help you improve your command of the English language. Whilst some of your friends may call you poyo for speaking in English, please ignore them! They are only ignorant people who are not aware of the importance of English in this era of globalisation. You must read aloud what you read. And make sure you have your dictionary with you. If you're not sure of a word's pronunciation, do check the dictionary for its phonetic pronunciation. There is no denying that the dictionary is going to be your best friend during these 'difficult' and 'trying' times. Read the newspapers such as The Star and The New Straits Times to improve your vocabulary as well. English newspapers are a rich source for new words. Or you could try reading English novels as well. Each author (as mentioned by Imakubex) has differing writing styles. From there, you can learn how to write essays more effectively as well as you can analyse the grammar used by different authors. Analyse the past tense, present tense, simple present tense, etc... Also, do watch the English dramas in the television and listen carefully to how they pronounce and stress certain words. this can help you to speak in a more natural manner. Don't forget that practice makes perfect. Work hard, do'a and tawakkal. InsyaAllah, Allah is always with you. =)

assalamualaikum all a few tips you can do: - read english books. try to read everyday. could be comics/magazines/books/newpapers anything that can hold ur interest. this way you will learn grammar and expand your vocabulary indirectly without having to do exercises like we had in school which was totally boring. - try to speak english. do it everyday. it doesnt matter if you sound right or wrong, but you must gain the confidence to speak. you will learn along the way what is the right tenses/words to use. - start a diary and write in english! if you have access to the internet (such as blogs) try writing in english. besides reading and speaking, you also have to master the art of writing english and its no better time to start now. in fact it is very effective that you exercise what you learn via reading by writing them down (regardless the kind of story you want to tell). - i am sure all of you watch tv, take it as a chance to practise hearing spoken english. the local news is a good start, they tend to speak slowly compared to american movies (they then to speak very fast) and british shows (they tend to have different pronunciation which we are not used to because we are exposed to american shows) and australian slang (i took 1 year to understand lectures, but its endearing nevertheless). so, dont let fear holds you back from learning. it's not rocket science and i am sure you can master this, insyaallah. all the best!

Salam... As for me, one of my way in grasping English is listening to GOOD english songs (bukan yg lagu ngarut2 skang ni).. when I say GOOD, i mean songs like mmm.. TOp of the world by carpenters or Leaving on a jet plane by john denver.. (sounds abit lame but, oldies songs are mostly grammatically correct) since i luv singing very much, by singing english songs, in a way it helps me to pronounce it better (though, certain artist uttered it wrongly) Plus, if u have a talent in playing any instrument.. take it as an advantage for you to compose songs using mm let say... poems, short rhymes.. anything!!:) with your hard work and the will to be better, insyaAllah everyting will fall into places just fine.. aminnnnn... p/s: I HATE READING! :) so kene 'improvise' skit la.. Selamat!
